Hot
on the Scene:
DJ Quick Silva
Interview Geri
March 26, 2008- I've lived in the
DMV area for most of my young life.
If you know the club scene like I
know the club scene you know a party
isn’t a party unless Djay Quick
Silva is spinning on the ones and
twos. When I first heard DMV's hot
boy spin I was in all. It was almost
as if he knew my mood and knew
exactly what I needed to hear. To me
that defines a Djay. I recently got
a chance to catch up with DMV's own
hot boy Djay Quick Silva and get the
scoop on how he changed the game.
Geri C.: So Quic what age did you
discover that you wanted to become a
Djay?
Quic: I have been djaying since the
age of ten so that gives me eighteen
years in the game. I have actually
been in radio for the last ten years
but have been djaying at parties and
clubs for eighteen.
Geri C.: Damn I had know idea
you've been doing this so long. Try
to think back and let the people
know what was one of your first
gigs?
Quic: One of my first parties was
when I was ten years old. I djayed
my cousin's birthday party in her
basement. It went terrible... my
speaker blew and I got booed; I
wonder what those people would be
saying now (hahaha). My first club
gig was in Baltimore at a spot Club
Indigo. A funny thing is that I was
only fourteen and the club was for
adults. I wasn't even old enough to
be there!
Geri C.: Dang Quic they didn't have
to boo you... I know they're rocking
with you and Angie Ange between
6pm-10pm on 93.9 WKYS ya digg. I
know the list is long but tell the
people some of your accomplishments?
Quic: Well I am currently the
official national DJ for Pepsi Cola.
I'm the official DJ for all the
Downtown Lockerooms in the country.
I'm Ray Lewis' and the Baltimore
Raven's DJ. I was the DJ on Redskins
wrap-up show on Comcast Sport Net. I
won East Coast number one DJ at the
mix show power summit in the
Dominican Republican. I'm a member
of Half Krazy Sounds, Violator
All-Star DJ's, and signed to Unruly
Management. I djayed for Bob Johnson
in Turks and Caicos for the grand
opening of BET Sound Stage. I djayed
the Rock the Mic tour for Lil Mo and
Fabolous. I also djayed and host the
Seagram's Gin Tour for three years.
I could keep going but I think you
get the idea.
Geri
C.: Wow that is an impressive list
Quic. So where can the DMV come see
you mixed the ones and twos?
Quic: I djay and host the K Street
Lounge each and every Wednesday. On
Thursdays I'm in DC at 1223 but the
first Thursday of the month I'm in
Baltimore at FullMoon. On Friday I'm
at Ibiza Nightclub. Every Saturday
I'm at H20 and on Sunday I'm back in
Baltimore at the Redmaple.
Geri C.: You are at some of the
tightest spots in the DMV area. For
the people that have been living
under a rock please let them know
what type of music you spin?
Quic: I spin everything from Hip
Hop, R&B, Old School, House,
Baltimore Club, Reggae, Dancehall,
Salsa, etc.
Geri C.: You have made the life of
a djay seem fabulous but what if you
never choose this profession. What
do you think you occupation would
have been?
Quic: If I wasn't djaying I would
probably be some type of investment
broker. I love to make money working
for me and not working for my money.
Also my dream growing up was to be a
football player... can you imagine
that?
Geri C.: I couldn't imagine that. I
would have never guessed. Let wrap
this interview up by me asking you
what advice do you have to give to
aspiring djays in the DMV area?
Quic: The advice I would give to up
and coming djays would be to first
always be on time and be consistent.
I don’t care if your djaying for
three people or three thousand
people still put in your best show
at all times. Lastly stay humble.
Never let the money and fame change
your personality because that's what
people remember when it's all said
and done. How you treat people is
key.
