When an artist releases a new album in stores it is special, when three of the most talented and commercially successful artists put their solo careers aside to form a super group it is an event. Kanye West, Pharell Williams and Lupe Fiasco will create the event album as the trio will record an album under the name of Child Rebel Soldiers. The individual credentials of each member justify the hype behind this magic that is in the works.
Kanye West has arguably authored three consecutive solo LPs. The Chicago native's most recent release was the September 2007 album Graduation. The album was a critical and commercial success. The album was certified double platinum by the RIAA five weeks after its release. In addition to his rapping prowess Kanye West is also a notable producer. He has produce songs for some of the industry's top talent including: The Game, Freeway, Slum Village, Common and Jay-Z.
Pharell Williams also has an impressive resume. He has produced hits for Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, The Clipse, Robin Thicke, and Jay Z. In addition to his production duties he has also released a solo album in 2006 called In My Mind. The album sold about 889,000 copies worldwide and received a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album.
Lupe Fiasco made a big splash with his debut Lupe Fiasco's Food and Liquor. His debut was also Grammy nominated for Best Rap Album. His follow-up Lupe Fiasco's The Cool was also critically acclaimed.
The group when the public's appetite when the trio recorded a song called "Us Placers" for Kanye West's
Can't Tell Me Nothing mixtpe. "It's definitely happening this year. We call each other by our Child Rebel names - but they are top secret for now," says Fiasco.
Whenever Child Rebel Soldiers does happen it is definitely going to be an event. Child Rebel Soldiers aren't the only solo artists that are planning to go in the studio for a collaborative project.
On December 17th, 2007 Jim Jones and Styles P announced plans to record an album together. Miss
Info even suggested that they name the album "Worst of All Worlds". The album would be released on Koch Records. The pairing of the conscious super thug from Yonkers and the smooth talking gangster from Harlem does offer some unique possibilities. Talk of this album does come at a unique time.
Jim Jones hasn't released anything since 2006's Hustler's P.O.M.E. This is the same album that spawned the hit "We Fly High".
Styles P has just released his third studio album Super Gangster Extraordinary Gentleman. He also has been working with his LOX brethren on a new album also. Jim Jones is allegedly working on a More Than Music 3 album also with his Diplomat label mates.
In the middle of both men's busy recording schedule they will be working on what should be a unique sounding project.
Miami native Rick Ross is all ready on tap to release his sophomore album Trilla, an album with his crew Carol City Cartel and a DVD titled Mi-Yayo. In addition to his already hectic schedule Rick Ross is planning on doing an album with Birdman.
"Me and Birdman are working on an album and a movie at the same time," Ross "We just feed the streets. Me being a fan of the hustle - the grind, [Birdman and I] have the same attitude and hunger coming from streets. He feels the same about me, you already know. We just went in the studio for the hood." Rick Ross said.
It doesn't matter what the motivation is it could be the hood, your family, your label yourself or your pockets collaborative projects when done correctly will benefit the one entity that matters the fans. It will be interesting to see how these joint ventures turn out.
