Ain't it funny how every once in awhile you come across some really hot talent. Although I have to admit that I've been on a roll lately. I consider myself fortunate to have met this next model, Nikki. What I can tell you is that she's definitely putting in the time and effort to make her modeling career happen. In fact, I'm sure its going to everything she wants it to be. Nikki is my pick for the first Up Close & Personal of 08.

DC Music & Models: As far as modeling goes, how long have you been into your craft.
Nikki : I first started modeling when I was like in the 2nd or 3rd grade. I got in to it from a friend that went to Rhythm Street Dance & Modeling Center in Reston, VA. and started modeling school under the instructor, Dawn. She got us doing Mannequin modeling for Limited Too at Fair Oaks &Tyson's Corner Mall....window shows and runway, back to school shows
DC Music & Models: Okay so fast forward...and you're back at it. Mannequin modeling huh, sounds hard. Did you have to stay still?
Nikki : Yes, mannequin modeling was definitely challenging for an elementary school kid, but hey I always knew what I wanted to do, so I did it... Over the last few months I was in 2 local Fashion shows in DC and MD, tomorrow I am working on an all day photo shoot to update my portfolio, launch my website & put a calendar together
DC Music & Models : You were a good study,...you were perfectly still for our photographer: except for when he asked you to move...lol

DC Music & Models : What's the website going to be about...is it a pay site?
Nikki : I had to learn all about posture, grace, etc....all that at a young age, No, it's not a pay site, right now I am working on building my local fan base, have a following
DC Music & Models : Oh okay sounds good. When can we expect to see the calendar?
Nikki : At my release party, shooting for mid February
DC Music & Models: Cool ....I get an invite right?
Nikki : Planning to have a calendar, a slide show of the variety of pictures I have. Using the party to network, launch my calendar, website, myself, gain the respect of my local people in DC< MD and of course VA.....my home town. Of course you get an invite..........VIP status.
DC Music & Models: Good,.....VIP is the best part about partying...lol. So tell me about your interest outside of modeling and what would your friends say about the type of person you are?
Nikki : I LOVE creative writing. I have come up to movie concepts, kind of started writing one, but haven't worked on it in a while. I also write poetry and songs....some how I write songs without a beat, and I can't sing, but I do it, lol. My friends would say..............."She's a spoiled brat, can be high maintenance and appear stuck up at first, but once you get to know her you know it's not true. She's down to earth, out spoken and a lot of fun and good person to party with" something along those lines.
DC Music & Models: You have to be really creative to do that...write songs and movies I mean. You must have a good imagination: which brings me to this question... I notice a lot of model have their own styles when it comes to pulling off sexy or playful types of shoots and posing,.....How do you get into character for a photo shoot?
Nikki: Hmmm........well, before I would just focused, but now I kind of stole Beyonce's thing where she turns in to Sasha when she gets on stage. So, I try to channel a character that's not like me
DC Music & Models : Okay , so you're a good looking model...what would you say is your best feature
Nikki : As far as Physical: My smile & eyes...oh & my walk. And personality wise: Sweet & Charming and very ambitious
DC Music & Models: I like an ambitious woman...its just something about them that's sexy. Okay so your look is different, what's your ethnicity:
Nikki: What's your guess? And thanks for asking me properly. All my life I have heard, "What are you?" Like I'm a damn science project, LOL
DC Music & Models: lol...Yeah i was about to ask you like that.....but I'm no good at guessing
Nikki: Black & Jewish.....I never know if that's the political way of saying it. My mother is black and my biological father is Jewish...I am sometimes confused my that, b/c I know Judaism, is a religion, but it is also recognized as an ethnicity
DC Music & Models : I would have never guessed that...
Nikki: So, basically I am 1/2 BET and 1/2 MTV..........what do you get? VH1. LMAO
DC Music & Models: .....no comment...
Nikki: Most people guess Black and Puerto Rican or some sort of Hispanic background, they always know one element is black...lol
DC Music & Models: Well you have an exotic look
Nikki: Thanks
DC Music & Models : So its easy to understand why you would get the different takes on your ethnicity
Nikki : Yes, and when I was growing up it use to bother me. Since at the time I didn't know my biological father was white, and I was raised around the side of my family who is black, I was felt like I had to defend my "blackness"...but as I matured, I realized in the industry I want to be in I can use it to my best advantage, and be a chameleon, play different roles on TV, in movies and for my character when modeling
DC Music & Models: You know the DC area, doesn't really have a lot of opportunities as far as modeling goes...how do you think this might affect your modeling career
Nikki: I know location is the key in this industry and since I am not in the "entertainment capital" such as LA or New York, I just have to work twice as hard, do what I can do to leave my mark and then if my destiny or my career takes me to another state or country......I'll be there.
DC Music & Models: okay so you're an actress as well......What types of modeling do you have an interest? (urban, commercial, print, video, glamour)? And what goals do you have as far as your modeling?
Nikki: All of it. But when it comes to "Urban" "Video" I am really careful about what I will and will not do. Unfortunately, a lot of hi-hop/urban modeling or videos seems to put models in a box or portrayed in a certain imagine. Now I am not knocking anyone's choices, b/c I respect everyone who is in this cut throat industry, however I don't want to be type cast as one particular type of model. My goals are to make name and face for myself in the modeling and acting world. And later after doing that I would like to get in to some behind the scene work, as far as like the creative team in different entertainment venues, possibly start my own agency
DC Music & Models : When you say a particular type of model ....pleased elaborate on what it is you want to portray:
Nikki: Sexy, Edgy, but doing it all with Class. I think someone can wear a sexy bathing suite, sexy lingerie piece, sexy outfit, etc...Without having everything exposed, you have to leave something to the imagination
DC Music & Models: Yeah we need to see more classy edgy sexy models (haha)
DC Music & Models: Nikki you're really attractive, my photographer was asking if he could shoot you again...lol. You must get a lot of pick up lines, what's the craziest you've heard so far?
Nikki: Hmmmmm...I'm trying to think b.c i have heard some corny ones before. But, I think men are most attractive when they just approach a woman with some simple conversation, "Hi, how are you?" No rhyming lines, lol. Oh, and men if us women are talking to our friends, ALWAYS, say excuse me and introduce yourself to everyone.
DC Music & Models: so guys get props if they introduce themselves to the whole crew?
Nikki: Yes don't disrupt a conversation and ignore everyone else that's there
DC Music & Models: lol...okay do you work out?
Nikki: Yes, I work out. I have my MP3 player on while I am on the elliptical machine and I can go
DC Music & Models: Well it looks like the workouts have paid off....definitely.
Nikki: Awww....thanx, it's like a 2nd job, lol
DC Music & Models Any shout outs, advice to other models or thoughts in closing?
Nikki Well, of course I am giving thanks to God for giving me the strength to keep working towards my passions. And thanks to my family and friends who have been nothing but supportive of me and my cheering crowd. And for other models....think of it as a business, not a glamorous job. It's hard WORK, and just educate yourself. I'm still learning too while trying to reach my goals.
