All I can say is that , you should have been there. Black Men's magazine put on quite a show. The swimsuit competition was hosted by 95.5 FM's on-air personality Adimu. There were performances by major and local artists including Grafh from Black Hand/Rockefella Records and Washington DC's own Marc Shyst.
Thirty one beautiful models were in attendance competing for a full three page layout in an upcoming issue of Black Men's magazine. The contestants were narrowed down from hundreds of hopefuls who showed up at the model call from the previous day.
These 31 contestants did not make the job of the judges easy Judges included Malik Pollard of Mad Flava TV/Elan Extreme Magazine, Ean Williams of Corjor International and model Tasha Ford, winner of last years Black Men's Swimsuit competition. Of course I would have been on the judges panel, but I didn't return the message... Just as well, from where my camera was set up I got a full view of everything important with out the pressure of having to pick from the lovelies who crossed the stage. As in any competition the results don't always come out like you might guess.

The contestants were judged from two rounds of competition. The first round was just swimsuit and the second was based on their own artistic expression. It was interesting to see the outfits that some of the models picked for the second round. I think I remember seeing a few "pasties"...like the ones Lil' Kim wore to the video awards that year. You'll be happy to know that there were no wardrobe malfunctions that night. Of course if any did occur you can rest assured that we would have captured that on camera as well....and promptly edited it out.
As for the winners, I can only tell you that the third place winner Ms. Chantel Costen had my vote all the way. I might be a little biased as Chantel recently did some interviews for our DCMM Live TV show.
Chantel definitely did her thing using the "school girl" theme for her second round knockout blow. The second place winner, Tiola wowed the crowd. You almost knew she was going to be in the top three finalists. The first place winner, Ms. Channel stole the show, twice. Her body was amazing! I can tell you that Channel wore the "pasties" in the second round. Pasties, a thong and she topped it off with a baseball cap.... Lil' Kim would have been proud.
